Oven installation considerations

design - oven height

deciding how high to make your oven is a mix of science and feel – you want to be comfortable, using the oven without hunching over cooking or managing the fire. this can be challenging if there are different height cooks.

wood fired oven height really depends on the size of the user – taller cooks find a higher oven is more comfortable and the opposite for shorter folks. WE WILL PROVIDE SOME REFERENCE DATA HERE BUT ULTIMATELY HOW YOUR OVEN LOOKS IS UP TO YOUR PREFERENCE.

as shown below, our opinion is that building your counter to accommodate somewhere around a 44″ inch oven floor height works out best for the majority of installations.

here are some recommendations/observations when it comes to planning how high you want your oven.  we like to talk/think in oven floor height as the most critical factor.  The following oven floor height is in relation to cook height and ability to see into the back of the oven comfortably:

oven floor height of 40″:

5’4″ cook: ok

5’9″ cook: ok

6’3″ cook: oven may be too low

oven floor height of 44″

5’4″ COOK: OK

5’9″ COOK: OK

6’3″ COOK: ok

oven floor height of 48″

5’4″ COOK: oven may be too tall

5’9″ COOK: OK

6’3″ COOK: ok

logistics & set up

WHEN BUYING ANY WOOD FIRED OVEN, OWNERS MUST UNDERSTAND WHAT IS INVOLVED WHEN INSTALLING A NEW OVEN & CONSIDER A FEW IMPORTANT DECISIONS AROUND THE FOLLWING AREAS:

Delivery – our ovens are crated and delivered on pallets.  we use commercial ltl services that will deliver to residential areas.  the oven will be delivered on a truck with hydraulic lift.  the delivery driver will use a pallet jack to deliver the oven to your back door/garage (within reason/access).

Installation – Even though our ovens are pre-built which is very convenient, there will still be some work that needs to be done to get them ready to cook. Our smaller piccolo ovens can be installed on a counter-top or can use the wheeled stand. be prepared to clear a path for the oven to travel to its final installation spot.  if you can, Select a contractor that has installed wood fired ovens before or one you trust.

Lastly, we understand this is a big investment so please don’t feel like you are doing this on your own, we are happy to help, provide our experience to make your installation successful.  we can provide contact info of contractors or tips and suggestions upon request – just let us know.
